The Snowy Ride – 6 November 2010

The Steven Walter Foundation’s annual Snowy Ride is only a couple of months away and promises to be another huge event. Our big ride around Australia finishes in Thredbo on Friday the 5th of November just in time for the Snowy Ride. Online registrations are now open and cost $60 per person, which includes a National Parks & Wildlife Service entry to the Kosciuszko National Park and an automatic entry into the draw for a Honda VFR1200 valued at $25,000 which has been donated by Honda Australia. There are also opportunities to win further minor prizes by completing any three

Sartso Jeans

Sartso Killer Jeans - Front

Don’t worry, I’m not about to turn this into a fashion blog, however I thought I would let you know about some jeans I bought recently for the ride. Most motorcycle riders are familiar with Draggin Jeans which are denim jeans that are lined with panels of Kevlar®. I went shopping for a couple pair of Draggins recently but unfortunatly the bike shop only had a single pair in my size and they looked like something a boiler maker would wear.

In the same section though was a range of Sartso Killer jeans. Just like the Draggins they feature Kevlar®

Personal Preparation

Gotta be fit for a big ride!

Something a little different today. So far I have blogged mainly about the motorcycle preparation, but what have I been doing physically to get myself ready for back to back to back to back days on the motorcycle? Sure some people will go into a trip like this without any physical prep, but I figure something is better than nothing.

Diet

Being on the road for five weeks, living out of motels and lunching on service station half-warmed meat pies is probably not going to be the best for my inner health.

Site Maintenance

It’s a cold and rainy day here in Canberra, the bike is finished, can’t go anywhere and I have nothing else to do. So due to some limitations of the current theme I’m using I’ve decided to install a new one today. While this is happening the site look and feel will change quite a bit until I get the settings bedded down.

edit: the upgrade to the site is now complete. A few little changes here and there but I can tell you the behind the scenes functionality has improved immensly.

$2,500 Target Reached!

A red letter day today. Thanks to Bill K of Canberra – and everyone else who has donated of course – I have now made my minimum $2,500 in donations. And not before time too with the official start in Tenterfield now only 31 days away. That’s right, 31 and I will be counting down every single day until then!

The overall total for the team on Everyday Hero is currently at $68,816 with offline fundraising probably not far off that amount either. The overall target of at least $150,000 raised looks more than achievable, a huge outcome!

Ride Around Australia October 2010

In October 2010 I rode a Yamaha Road Star around Australia to raise money for the Steven Walter Foundation Program. This site documents the trip prep in the lead up to the journey and a daily diary of the trip itself.
